AB Trivia Team
Ms. Anthony - English and Ms. Bohmiller - Special Education
Meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:30 in room 167W.
Students prepare to compete in WGBH - Channel 2's competition for high schools in Massachusetts.
Questions come from the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks and areas of general knowledge.
Academic Decathlon Team
Mr. Crick - English
Meets Tuesdays and Fridays 2:30 in room 208E.
The Academic Decathlon Team competes against other Massachusetts high schools in ten areas
including economics, social studies, math, fine arts, music, literature, science, speech, interview &
essay. Students who love knowledge, are interested in a broad range of topics and enjoy
competition will find this activity stimulating and fun.
Envirothon
Mr. Hohn - Science
Meets Thursdays at 2:30 in 256W.
The Massachusetts Envirothon is a natural resource program for high school students, designed to
cultivate a desire to learn about our natural environment through competitive events & community
service. Students attend workshops to learn about Massachusetts wildlife, soils, forestry and
aquatic ecosystems. Students work closely with scientists, and town officials to learn about local
issues, identity a specific problem, and design and excute a related community service project .
Open to all students, freshmen to seniors.
Math Team
Mr. Noeth - Mathematics
Meets every other Thursday at 2:45 in 244W.
The Math Team participates monthly in the Massachusetts Mathematics League competitions.
Student teams from each school compete against each other to solve math problems from all areas
of high school mathematics, from arithmetic to analytic geometry. Competitions are on Thursday
afternoons, and transportation is provided. Regular membership is open to students who have
completed geometry or beyond. Other students may participate as alternate team members if
space permits.
Mock Trial
Mr. Silva - Acton Police Department and Ms.Kennedy - English
Meets Tuesdays at 2:30 in 207E plus some weekends at the Acton Public Safely Building.
Students prepare for and participate in competition in which teams present the two sides of a legal
case. This program is sponsored by the Massachusetts Bar Association and helps students gain a
better understanding of the legal system and court procedures and develop communication and
advocacy skills.
Ocean Sciences Bowl
Mr. Romano - Science
Meets Wednesdays at 2:30 in 164W.
Students prepare for and participate in a competition that focuses on ocean-related topics. This
national program is under the direction of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership in Washington, DC.
Science Team
Mr. Dempsey - Science
Meets Wednesdays at 2:30 in 258W.
The Science Team competes monthly in meets with a dozen other schools and in the State Science
Olympiad in the spring. Students compete as teams in various areas of science for which they
prepare during the preceding weeks. Activities vary from quiz shows to building vehicles for racing,
and from identification of trees to laboratory investigations. Open to all students, freshmen to
seniors.
Speech & Debate Team
Ms. Fox - English and Ms. Hennessey
Meets Mondays and Fridays at 2:30 in the Library or area classrooms.
This club is open to all students interested in academic competition. Students compete in
tournaments at the local, state, and national level. Team members are members of the National
Forensic League and the club’s goal is to develop public speaking and leadership skills. Students
compete in any eighteen events from Dramatic and Humorous to Original Oratory, Radio
Broadcasting and Debate and Student Congress.
