Home & School Connection

Classroom Visits

Parents are encouraged to come and observe their child's participation. If you have a hobby, skill, song or family tradition you would like to share, we invite you to do so. Classroom visits should be scheduled in advance with your child's teacher. All parents visiting the building need to sign in at the Pupil Services office before proceeding to the classroom. All volunteers must complete a CORI form prior to working with students. CORI forms are available through the Pupil Services Office.

Parent Communication

Each teacher publishes a weekly newsletter that contains information about curriculum, class events, upcoming field trips, class songs and favorite cooking recipes. Daily or weekly communication notebooks are also used for some children, particularly those with special needs.

Family Participation

Families are an integral part of our program. Whether observing or volunteering in class, attending Parent-Teacher Organization meetings, chaperoning on field trips, or joining in family potluck dinners or programs, you are encouraged to become involved with the Preschool.

Room Parents

During the school year one or two parents from each class are asked to volunteer as a "room parent". The room parent acts as a liason between the teacher and the families of the classroom, helping to bridge communication between home and school. Each family can expect to be contacted by a room parent at various times throughout the school year. Some of the tasks of a room parent may include:

  • establishing a call list for unexpected school cancellations,

  • welcoming new students and families to the school and acting as a point of reference for them,

  • coordinating snacks for classroom events held during the school year

Parent-Teacher Organization

The Preschool Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) was formed during the 2001-2002 school year to support all activities of the school. Some of the many ways the PTO supports the school are:

  • weekly music program
  • fundraising
  • Scholastic Book Drive
  • coordinating community play events
  • organizing classroom donations

All parents are encouraged to attend PTO meetings and volunteer some time and talent. It is a great way to get to know other families and become more involved with the school community. If you have any questions or would like to share other ideas, please contact Carol Huebner.

Notices of upcoming meetings and other PTO updates will be sent home with students, and you can check the Bulletin Board on the web site home page for updates.
