Requirements
All Acton-Boxborough Regional High School students must meet the following minimum requirements to graduate and receive a diploma.
Passing grades in:
- Four years of english
- Three years of social studies (one of which must be U.S History)
- Two years of science (one of which must be biology)
- Two years of mathematics
- Fitness for living -- this course includes two terms of Health Education and two terms of physical education.
- Six quarters of physical education over the next three years (10, 11, 12)
- Academic elective requirement - one additional year of English, socila studies, math or science, or a third year of world language.
Credits and Graduation
Satisfactory completion of a year's work in a course meeting five times a week and requiring home preparation will entitle a pupil to five credits toward graduation. A full-time course not requiring home preparation will be allowed two and one-half credits. Courses meeting fewer than five times a week will be allowed one credit for each period per week of work requiring home preparation, and one-half credit for each period per week not requiring home preparation.
Ninety credits are required for graduation for the class of 2008. One hundered credits are required for graduation for the classes of 2009 and thereafter. The following distribution of credits is required for graduation:
- 20.0 English
- 15.0 Social Studies
- 10.0 Science
- 10.0 Mathematics
- 2.75 Fitness for Living
- 2.25 Physical Education
- Students must currently pass the 10th grade English and Math portions of the MCAS exam to earn a diplomia in a MA State Public High School. In addition, the class of 2010, and thereafter, will have to pass the Science portion of the MCAS exam.
To pass a grade, you must have met the following requirements:
For entrance into grade 10...............................20 credits
For entrance into grade 11...............................40 credits
For entrance into grade 12...............................60 credits
For graduation....................................................90 credits
NEASC Accreditation of the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School
The New England Association of Schools and Colleges accredits schools and colleges in the New England states. Membership in one of the six regional accrediting associations in the United States indicates that the school or college has been carefully evaluated and found to meet standards agreed upon by qualified educators. Colleges support the efforts of public school and community officials to have their secondary school meet the standards of membership.
The Acton-Boxborough Regional High School has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and maintains active membership in that group.
