The threat of bioterrorism seems to be a new phenomenon, but in reality bioterrorism
has existed hundreds years dating back to the hurling the bodies of plague victims at
the defenders during siege of Kaffa in 1346. In part because the threats are
bacterial agents (i.e. Anthrax, Plague, or Tularemia) and viral agents (i.e. Small
Pox, Ebola, Marbur, Lassa) with unfamilure and scary sounding names, the meer
mention of bioterrorism causes fear in the general population. But we know that
bacteria are a key ingredient in yogurt and we are exposed to mild viruses on a daily
basis. So we need to research these threats so they are not scary but are
instead we understand them as the biological agents that they are.
