Then and Now: Exchange Hall![]()
Exchange Hall was built in 1860 for James Tuttle & Company. It served as a department store. The building contains four stories. Since the bottom level was a farmer's exchange, it was called Exchange Hall. The second and third floors were reserved for everyday items like food and clothing. The fourth floor had less common items like furniture. On Saturday evenings, the furniture was lowered to the third floor and stored in the aisles, so dances could be held on the fourth floor. Behind the hall was a cider mill.
