Committees

The districts’ professional development plan views committee participation as part of the individual’s professional development. Therefore, PDPs are awarded for participation in committee activities at both the school and district level. The following is a list of district-wide committees for which PDPs will be awarded in 2008-2009. Some committees are representative in nature. Some will continue with the members who served on them last year. Others are open to any interested faculty member. All arrangements for committee meetings are prepared by the chairperson. Chairpersons are listed after each description; please contact the person for more details.

Curriculum Instruction and Assessment Committee (CIA)

The purpose of the committee is to learn more about what we are doing and what needs to be done in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. This is an opportunity to learn about what is happening district-wide. The primary functions are to keep lines of communication open with the Assistant Superintendent, each other, RDLs, BDLs, directors, and the faculty members you represent about CIA issues and to provide leadership as a steering committee to help set specific goals, activities, and action plans for the year with a district-wide view of our needs for our children and faculty. (Susan Horn)

Community Service Learning Committee (CSL)

The role of this committee is to provide leadership for integrating service learning throughout the district. The committee, which consists of representatives from each school, will share service-learning theory and practice in order to enhance service-learning experiences across the district and to coordinate the CSL activities. (Susan Horn)

Technology Team (TT)

The role of this task force is to review and revise the district’s technology plan and formulate recommendations for creating a consistent PreK-12 technology curriculum. Representatives from each school will be asked to serve on this task force, as well as interested parents and community members. (Priscilla Kotyk)

Acton and Acton-Boxborough Leadership Teams

The committee is made up of members from three committees: Cabinet meetings, Principals’ meetings, and Administrative Council meetings that serve as an advisory leadership group to the schools to promote continuous improvement. The team is a cross-section of administrators and directors joining together to strategically plan for the future of our schools. The focus will be on sharing what is happening across the districts and determining needs to be addressed by reviewing areas of strength and areas needing improvement. These committees have designated members. (Susan Horn)

BTSP/Mentor Steering Committee

The BTSP/Mentor Steering Committee will meet up to three times a year to discuss, review and revise the BTSP/Mentoring Program. (Chris Mohn, Tina Bloom, and Sinikka Gary)

Professional Development Committee

The role of this committee is to provide quality professional development opportunities for the faculty. Members serve as liaisons between the committee and the faculty of the school or department they represent. Recommendations are made for guest lecturers, workshops, courses, institutes, and other offerings. Throughout the year PDC members work on the format and content of the Professional Development Handbook published for the district. The committee consists of teachers, administrators, and curriculum directors and should include a representative from each school or department. (Susan Horn and Priscilla Kotyk)
