Students will become familiar with the elements of the fairy tale genre as they create one of their very own. Students select one story online to analyze, follow question guidelines, and learn about the elements for creating a fairy tale before outlining and writing their own.
Fourth grade students assume the role of one of this book's characters and create a character journal. First, the students conduct research on habitats of either Maine or the prairies, then they describe what life is like in these regions. Group work includes vocabulary, chapter summaries, and predictions. Students create three projects throughout this lesson to research the lives of their favorite authors. Two student worksheets are included.
