River Music

There are thousands of songs with river themes, sometimes tracing the development of a river from a mountain stream, (as in the classical Moldau symphony or the Grand Canyon Suite) some focusing on the divisions caused by rivers. (The water is wide, I cannot cross o'er,,, "Moon River. wider than a mile") Other themes include the changing nature of rivers ("You rolling old river, you changing old river" or the path that rivers take to the sea, ("Silently flows the river to the sea.").

For thousands of years, rivers have inspired people and divided them. Rivers provided natural boundaries, yet rivers also bring people together. Many ancient civilizations and early cities have rivers at their heart. Rivers move things, people and ideas.
