Kindergarten Registration 2009 - 2010
The Kindergarten enrollment chart for the 2009-2010 school year is now available. Although the projection was for 287 Acton and Boxborough kindergarteners, we currenty have 336 enrolled. Please be aware that this number includes some slots that we are reserving for possible retentions and families that have applied for early admission. As a result, some of these students will not actually enroll for next year. We hope to have some of these decisions made before the lottery.
Given the current numbers, we would place 66 students at each school, each in a class of 22. We will need to have a lottery for the Douglas School. We may need to have a small lottery for a few students at Merriam and Conant.
We have been working to move the lottery up so that it is closer to registration in an effort to give families more notice of their placement and schedule for next year. Thanks to the hard work of Ruth Cvitkovich and everyone else involved in placing students, we will be able to hold the lottery on Wednesday April 8th at 9:00 am at the Jr. High. Families will be notified of their placement by mail on the weekend of April 11th. If parents have any questions about their student's placement, we ask them not to call until Monday April 13th so that we can complete the letters to notify all families.
Each elementary school will need to send two parent volunteers to participate in the lottery.
The total number of students is likely to change quite a bit over the next few months. We will watch it closely as it relates to class size.
